What we do…

The purpose of Family & Youth Investment is to assist families who have a child with a serious emotional disturbance.

How we do it…

Each child and family has a professional partner who uses the wraparound process to facilitate building a team dedicated to culturally competent, flexible, nontraditional, and unconditional care. The family is the expert, and the professional partner acts as a consultant to them. Each team creates a plan of care for the family which includes a balance of personal and community resources

Why we do it…

It is our belief that children do best when they remain in their own communities. We also believe that parents should not be forced to make their child a ward of the state to access resources.

Philosophy…

Our philosophy is based upon the wraparound approach. Wraparound relies on the natural support systems of the family in its community. We believe that families with increasingly complex needs require individualized interventions, resources, and supports. We are unconditionally committed to helping families achieve their goals by working through their culture, values, preferences, and strengths.

Components of wraparound…

• An individualized plan is developed by the wraparound team.
• The team makes a commitment to the unconditional care towards the entire family.
• Resources are coordinated to meet the unique needs of the child and family.
• The plan is strength-based and culturally competent.
• Child-centered, and family driven.

Who is eligible...

• Youth who are under the age of 21.
• Youth who are diagnosable with a mental illness under the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) published by the American Psychiatric Association.
• Youth who reside in either the natural home, foster care, or are in the process of reunification and are at risk of a more restrictive placement. 
• Youth who are at risk for involvement in the juvenile justice system, which may include: committing a criminal offense or behavioral health problems at school or home.
• Youth who reside in the 16 counties of southeast Nebraska

Fees / Funding...

• Families are not charged a fee to participate in Family & Youth Investment.
• Region V Systems funds FYI, receiving federal and state dollars through the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services System as well as match funding from each of the 16 counties in southeast Nebraska.
